Torture Hits Home

Read this torture special in Mother Jones and think about it. What can be done? How can we lobby and pressure our elected and un-elected rulers to stop this abhorrent behaviour?

One article is on a reality game show called Solitary. The contestants are effectively tortured. They can leave at any point and the last man standing walks off with 50K (Dollars). This is clearly fucked up. Would you watch it? In doing so you are boosting the viewing figures and incentivising a third series or an even more depraved show. But, in a disturbing way, it would be interesting to see how far people will go for the glory of winning a C list game show and 50k. Worryingly, I think the winning of the game show would be of more importance than the cash to most contestants. As an observer of modern society could you justify supporting something so beyond distasteful?
