Just saw a clip of 4th of July Celebrations at Mount Rushmore on Al Jazeera. Many of you will, like me, find Civil Religions a little bit creepy, but this tops it all. As the fireworks were scorching the sky guess what song was playing? The Star Wars theme tune. America as the "rebel alliance", standing up to the "Evil Empire"? How's that for self image? Creepy.
