The US fiscal stimulus, which gives Americans a $600 dollar cheque to boost aggregate demand, has yielded some surprising results. One sector of the economy has seen a large increase in demand and an up tick in sales. Guess which sector? Mortgages? Savings? Consumer Durables? Precious Metals? No. No. No. And No. Its the adult sector. Yes, that's right porn. According to the Adult Internet Research Company many porn sites have experienced a 20-30% increase in sales since the fiscal stimulus cheques started arriving in May. Coincidence? They think not. The summer is apparently a usually flaccid (sorry couldn't help it) time for online adult sites. (Those long lonely winter months really do have an effect). On top of this, AIRC states that 32% of those it surveyed stated that the fiscal stimulus was an important factor in either renewing or taking out new porno subscriptions.
What's the most appropriate headline for this? "Bush and Congress pay for Porn"?
Can you do better?
